Pretty Lake, a quiet fishing lake with a 10 mph speed limit, is located in the southeast corner of Lagrange County in NE Indiana. Pretty Lake is 184 acres of clean water with a water clarity of 23′ and plant life found to a depth of 27′. There are approximately 230 cottages and lake homes bordering its lakeshore. The Pretty Lake Conservation Club (PLCC), established in 1940 with a mission of being a unified voice for the Pretty Lake community, is an affiliate member of Lagrange County Lakes Council.
The PLCC, a non-profit organization, is governed by a board of directors. The PLCC sponsors a variety of club events at its clubhouse during the lake season. Residents are notified about these events through newsletters and fliers. Highlights of the year are the goose roundup in June, the boat flotilla in July, and the family picnic and rummage sale in August. PLCC merchandise is available for purchase. A Pretty Lake directory, by local businesses, is published every three years. Clubhouse rental is available to members and non-members.

The distance around Pretty Lake is very nearly 3 miles. It takes about 45 minutes walking briskly. At my speed, about an hour! lol
It takes Steve & Tracy about 10 minutes!
I tracked it this afternoon on Map My Walk ap. It is 2.72 miles. It took me 46:40 mins at 17.09 mins per mile. Burned 471 calories
I’m sure you’ve all heard that bands of thieves are targeting lake cottages heavily at the moment. Let’s all keep an eye out for one another’s property…..we’re kind of on our own out here and we must rely on each other’s diligence.
I am saddened to report the death of my long-time friend, Dr. Arthur Hall. Dr. Hall made numerous contributions to Pretty Lake residents through his well water testing, frequent monitoring of Pretty Lake water quality factors, supervision of conditions at the Miller Hog Farm and many other activities too numerous to mention. Due to health issues, he moved away last year from his Pretty Lake cottage of more than forty years.

ELKHART — Arthur E. Hall, 88, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born April 3, 1926, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Dr. Frederick A. and Edith (Shoener) Hall. On Aug. 10, 1947, in Garrett, he married Dorothy Brumbaugh.
She survives along with daughter Beth (Samuel Sommers) Hall of Elkhart and a brother, Dr. Marshall (Grace) Hall of Miami, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, the Rev. Deborah N. Hall; and a sister, Virginia Hall.
Dr. Hall served in the Army during World War II as part of the 37th Infantry, in combat and later as head of staff for officer ratings and promotions for the five Air Forces of the Pacific Air Command in Clark Field and Tokyo until his honorable discharge. During his military time he received several Bronze Stars and other medals.
He was a graduate of Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Hall was a veterinarian in Garrett. From 1963 to 1972, he was appointed and served on the Indiana Veterinary Medical Examining Board under three governors. He left private practice in 1970 to join the USDA Veterinary Services. Dr. Hall later became program chief of field operations for foreign animal diseases and was acting director of the Northern Region of APHIS.
Dr. Hall belonged to the American Veterinary Medical Association, Indiana Wildlife Federation, Pretty Lake Conservation Club and American Guild of Organists and served as president of Garrett-Keyser-Butler School Board. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist church.
Indiana Wildlife Federation bestowed upon him the Water Conservationist of the Year Award in 2001 and the Ginn Award in 2009. He received numerous other awards for his veterinary work. He worked as an ER Red Coat at Elkhart General Hospital for 10 years, training many volunteers.
He loved to make and give vanilla extract, earning him the nickname “the Vanilla Man.”
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, service at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Presiding will be the Rev. Daniel Repp from St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Memorial contributions may be given to Harbor Light Hospice.

Hi friends and neighbors… just wanted to let you know that our sweet dog Sophie passed away a few days ago. So many of you who walked the Pretty Lake path were often greeted by Sophie. She loved every one. Many of you often gave her a treat as you walked by and she dearly loved that! We live at the dead end road by the stone pillars… she was the black part-Lab dog with the wagging tail. I wanted you to know how much we appreciated your “hi’s” and treats. Sophie will be missed by many.
I’m so sorry to learn of Sophie’s passing. She was a wonderful and gentle pet and will be missed.

No. That was removed 20 to 30 years ago but the lake is still “Pretty”

As stated before, the Pretty Lake Conservation Club does not have control of when the dam settings are changed. We must adhere to the court order and follow the directions of the DNR.
Please be on the lookout for a run away blue kaya! It was blown into the lake last night with the high winds! We’d be greatful if you do see it to bring ashore and we will pick up!

we have a trailer on Pretty Lake with a 50 ft antenna and I get absolutely 0 tv channels.Have year old HD TV and when I put it on channel scan,nothing.Is there somebody I can call o any suggestions.Have only owned trailer 2 years but makes for a long day without it working. Thanks in advance
Has the TV ever worked at the trailer? If you brought it from another location, you should go to the “Menu” button on the remote and find the “Setup” option. Go through the setup process as if it were a new TV. Be sure the antenna cable is firmly attached (but not overtightened). If the TV was used on “cable” before, it has to be reset to “Off Air” to work from your antenna. The setup process should let you reset the system. Good luck!
Are the history of Pretty lake books still available? My grandparents built a cottage on Pretty Lake in the 40s? I spent many summers in the late 60s early 70s up there and would love to purchase a book.

We just bought the log sided home on Pretty Lake. We’re very excited about our new lakehouse and looking forward to meeting our neighbors. Where do we send our dues for the PLCC? We’d be interested in a lake directory. Have no idea what our “cottage number” is or what district we’re in. Any suggestions for good internet service? Any help or advice would be appreciated!
There used to be a beach and a water slide at Pretty Lake. When it closed they had an auction. I bought a large pudding stone that supported the flag pole. It’s inscribed “Pretty Lake” with a date from the ‘30’s. I’m looking to find it a home where it belongs. Any ideas?
A cute little dog came to my door about an hour ago it’s mostly black with white feet and a tan face it’s a very pretty little boy dog and not fixed. I need to find the owner of this little dog. I already have a dog and a cat it’s very sweet dog it’s very friendly lapdog, very lost wants to come home. It’s got a stubby tail, no collar.

Very likely that someone “dumped” her in a neighborhood rather than take responsibility for her family. Typical coward’s way out.
I found the owner. She’s a little runner and got thru an opened door. But now she’s home and her puppies are fed.
To The Pretty Lake Board
I wanted to give some feedback on Amanda Parr’s yoga class that was held at the Pretty Lake Clubhouse this summer and fall. We are lucky to have such a qualified yoga instructor offering classes here. It has been wonderful to have such a peaceful setting for her classes. I’m sure that more people would take advantage if they knew about it. So nice to have something that promotes community involvement. There were people in Amanda’s classes that came from other lakes as well.
I would encourage the board to not only continue offering space for her classes but advertise them, especially in for the summer residents who may not have heard about them.

We’ve had lake/ dock access on Pretty Lake for 21 years. Sadly, the new neighbor now tells us we need to file for a group pier license, because it’s the law to have five or more easement holders on the shared dock. There is only four of us, actively three homes. There is five if she could count herself but anyway we dont want to miss another year on the lake. We just want to look into how much it cost and get some more information.
