I received some great news this morning. Steve Mcelhoe, President of the Lake of the Woods Association and President of the LaGrange County Lakes Association informed me that State Senator Sue Glick informed him that the application for the zoning change to allow a CAFO (Factory Farm hog operation) to be built has been withdrawn!
It is great news but it will be taken with a side of caution since the petitioner could reapply at any time. Granted they would have to start from scratch and go through the entire process again but it could happen. As a result, I will continue to participate in the steering committee meetings of the local lake association Presidents to ensure we will be ready to resist again if the application is resubmitted.
Thanks to all who stepped up to get the word out, wrote letters, sent emails and called to protest the CAFO.
