Fishing Practices…

It has been brought to the board’s attention that some people fishing in Pretty Lake are doing so by netting fish off the beds in the shallow waters.  According to the DNR, this practice in unlawful, and those people caught netting fish as a method of catching them can be fined if/when caught.

Landing nets may be used only to assist in the landing of legally caught fish. Nets may not be used as the method of catching fish.

In addition, it is an opinion that fishing off the beds in general is unsportsmanlike and could add to the lack of population of fish in our lake. If you see anyone fishing off the beds, please contact the DNR hotline at: 812-837-9536.   A DNR officer will respond ASAP to assess the situation and issue the appropriate fines.

Be sure you have your fishing license with you at all times while fishing. There is a good chance the DNR will be visiting our lake to monitor this situation.

Thank you…

What’s Happening at Pretty Lake…

Weather:  It’s been a mild winter, compared to the last couple of years, and there’s finally some ice on the lake. The ice fishermen are hoping for colder temps and more ice, while the gardeners among us are thinking about spring!!Ice 1 Ice 2

Business: The PLCC Board of Directors has applied for a LARE grant. The funds from this grant will be added to PLCC funds to complete a water quality monitoring study of Pretty Lake.  The study will determine to what degree the lake’s water quality has benefited from the projects that were recommended in the prior diagnostic and feasibility study. The completed projects are as follows: The installation of a two-stage ditch, storm drain improvements, tile drain improvements, exotic vegetation control program, and the sediment removal project, which was completed this past December. The results of the study will allow the members of the PLCC community to reevaluate and focus resources on management efforts that will further improve Pretty Lake.

The water quality monitoring study will include a lake shoreline and streambank erosion survey, nuisance species survey, lake and stream water quality sampling, biological and habitat survey of streams, update of the prioritized management recommendations, and project reporting.

Once it has been determined that the LARE grant is approved, the PLCC Board of Directors will provide additional information on possible fund raisers to help complete the funding for the study. It is important that all residents pay their annual dues on time and attend the fund raisers which help to make all this possible. Your PLCC Board of Directors work very hard on the behalf of all lake residents to make our lake one if the best and cleanest lakes in Northeast Indiana. We have an outstanding community.

Misc: Keep checking the PLCC website for updates and information about your lake community. A list of your new Board of Directors and Zone Directors can be found under the “PLCC Directors and Zones” tab. Also now available is the 2016 summer events schedule, found under the “2016 Club Events” tab.

Thank YOU!!

Lake Update… Update…

Thank you to those who helped with the lake outlet clean up!! We had 10 to 12 people show up with two small tractors. It took us less than one hour to get the debris cleaned up and the water flowing again. Teamwork!!!! Thanks again for the help and support…
Now that the sediment removal project has been completed we can open the dam at the lake’s outlet. The water level needed to be kept higher to accommodate the equipment for the project. It is important to lower the lake now before the ice forms to protect the shoreline. The inlet has been cleaned out and we are in need of helping hands, rakes, and muscle to clear out the outlet so that when we open the dam the water can flow freely. It has become clogged with lily pads, roots, and other lake debris. We are planning to meet on Tuesday (Dec. 29th) at 10:00am to clean out the outlet. Please consider lending a hand… Rain dates will be the following day, or the day after, or the day after until we get the job done.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Ken Hensch,  PLCC President

Sediment Removal Update!

SRS, Inc. has reported that they have removed 3,196 cubic yards of sediment so far. This leaves 2,522 cubic yards to go on the contract. The channels at site #2 are going very well.  Zach is projecting two and half weeks to complete Pretty Lake which would be around mid December.

Onward!!!

Sediment Removal Update!

As of 11/4//2015, SRS has removed 1700 of the 5718 cubic yards of sediment.  They should be finishing up with the north shore area (Site#3) the second or third  week of November. They will then begin to work on sites #1 & #2, with the goal to complete those areas by the end of December, weather permitting.  The north side (site #3) was done first because they can break through ice in the channels much easier if necessary.

Stay Tuned!!!
